A House Full of Southern TideFrom May 2, 2007

At home warehouse: Allen Stephenson’s goal was for his company, Southern Tide, to make the best polo shirt available. He thinks he’s done that—the shirt is flying out of men’s specialty stores since he began selling it six weeks ago. Southern Tide also sells ties. Currently, he and his partner, Harrison Hughes, are using the Stephenson home as a warehouse, with shirts stacked in the dining room and elsewhere through the house. Stephenson said that space is tight, and he expects to move out of his parents’ house by the end of the summer. He came up with the idea for Southern Tide when he was studying in Italy and missed all things Southern. The company, which has the apparel made by various firms, was established in 2006 and blends Southern tradition and comfort with Italian style and quality.
